Welcome to Interplate — a place to search license plates, share what yours means, and comment on plates you spot on the road. This page walks through every feature of the site.
Searching plates
The home page has two search fields: one for the plate characters and one for the state. You can use either or both. Search is case-insensitive and ignores spaces and dashes. You do not need an account to search or read anything on Interplate.
Adding your own plate
- Click Add your plate on the home page.
- Enter the plate characters, pick the issuing U.S. state (required), and describe what the plate means.
- Your author name is automatically your nickname from your account.
- You must be signed in — the button will send you to sign-in if you're not.
Photo verification
When adding a plate you can upload a photo of it. Our AI compares the photo to the characters and state you entered. If it matches, the plate gets a Verified badge. If not, it's marked Unverified. Verification is optional but recommended — Pro users can only moderate comments on plates they have verified.
Comments, likes and dislikes
Every plate page has a comment section. Signed-in users can post comments and like or dislike other comments. Guests can read everything but will be sent to sign-in when they try to interact.
Reporting content
Every description and comment has a small Report button. Reports require a written reason and are sent to Admins and Owners for review.
Removing ownership of a plate
If you added a plate and no longer want it linked to your account, open the plate page and click Remove my ownership. The plate and its comments stay on the site, but it will no longer be claimed by you.
Your account
- Nickname: this is what shows up on your comments and plates. You can change it once every 30 days.
- Profile picture: also once every 30 days.
- Email verification: we email you a 5-character license-plate style code. Enter it on your account page to verify.
- Password visibility: use the eye icon on the sign-in and sign-up form to reveal what you're typing.
Roles
- Interplater — the default role for everyone with an account.
- Interplater Pro — a one-time $5 upgrade. Can change profile picture more freely and moderate comments on plates they've verified.
- Admin — can delete any plate or comment and can ban users.
- Owner — can do everything Admins can, plus assign roles. Owners cannot be banned.
Bans
Banned users see a banner across the top of the site and cannot post plates, comments, or votes until the ban expires (or is lifted, for permanent bans). If you think a ban is a mistake, email us.
